Sample Process for Snus Can Production Line Testing

Before committing to a full production order, testing snus can samples on your filling line is the single most important quality step. This guide covers how many samples you need, plain vs custom options, lead times, shipping, and what happens after you approve — based on MANKE's actual sample process used by 150+ brands.

How Many Samples Do You Need?

200–300 pieces per can variant. This is the number MANKE recommends — and the number that 150+ brands have used to successfully qualify their production lines.

Here's why: testing with 50 pieces might tell you the can fits your filler. But it won't tell you whether closure torque stays consistent after 1,000 cycles, or whether labels adhere uniformly at production speed, or whether your line operator can maintain the same throughput with this specific can geometry. 200–300 pieces is the minimum to expose intermittent issues.

Plain Samples vs Custom-Printed Samples

Most brands test in two phases:

Phase 1 — Plain Samples

Stock cans with no branding. Purpose: verify fit, closure, torque, and filling-line compatibility. These ship fastest — 7–10 working days. No artwork setup required.

Recommended quantity: 200–300 pcs per variant

Phase 2 — Production Samples

Custom-printed cans with your branding. Purpose: verify color accuracy, label placement, and final market-readiness. These follow Phase 1 approval and include artwork proofing.

Lead time: 7–10 days for cans + 5–7 days for artwork proofing

Confirm Your Can Dimensions Before Ordering Samples

The most common production issue we see: a brand orders samples, tests them, approves them — then discovers their co-packer's filling line is calibrated for a different diameter. Know your line specs first.

Can Type Dimensions Best For
Standard (70mm) Ø70 × 25 mm Most filling lines. 20–22 pouch capacity.
Slim Ø69.8 × 20.4 mm Compact format. 15–17 pouch capacity.
Standard Tall Ø69.6 × 23.6 mm Mid-height. 18–20 pouch capacity.
Mini Ø60.1 × 20.9 mm Sampler / travel. 10–12 pouch capacity.

How to Order Samples

1

Tell us your line specs

Filling machine model, target diameter, and whether you need standard or CR closure. If you are unsure, we will help you confirm.

2

Choose plain or custom

Plain samples ship fastest. Custom samples include artwork proofing and Pantone matching.

3

Receive samples in 7–10 days

Express shipping worldwide. Each variant ships in clearly labeled packaging.

4

Test on your line

Run the full batch. Check fill speed, closure torque, label adhesion. Flag any issues.

5

Approve and go to production

Sign off on samples → we issue Production Order Confirmation → mass production begins.

Frequently Asked Questions About Samples

How many sample cans do I need for production line testing?
We recommend 200–300 pieces per can variant. This gives your production team enough units to test filling speed, closure torque consistency, label application, and overall line compatibility. Testing with fewer than 100 pieces often misses intermittent issues that only surface at production cadence.
What is the lead time for samples?
Standard sample orders ship in 7–10 working days for existing mold designs. Custom-printed samples add 5–7 working days for artwork proofing and Pantone matching. Custom molds require 4–6 weeks before samples can ship.
Can I get plain samples without customization?
Yes. Plain samples are the fastest path to testing. You receive stock cans without any branding — ideal for filling-line calibration, torque testing, and dimensional verification. Once your line is dialed in, we move to custom-printed production samples.
What diameter options are available for snus cans?
MANKE's most common format is 70mm diameter (Ø70 × 25 mm), which fits standard filling lines used by most co-packers. We also offer slim variants (Ø69.8 × 20.4 mm), standard variants (Ø69.6 × 23.6 mm), and mini formats (Ø60.1 × 20.9 mm). If you are unsure which size your line requires, specify your filling machine model and we will confirm compatibility.
Do you ship samples internationally?
Yes. Samples ship via express courier (DHL / FedEx / UPS) to all major markets including the US, EU, UK, Canada, UAE, and GCC. Express shipping typically takes 3–5 business days. We can also arrange sea freight for bulk sample orders over 5,000 pieces.
What happens after sample approval?
Once you sign off on samples, we issue a Production Order Confirmation with final specs, pricing, MOQ, and delivery timeline. For standard cans, mass production begins immediately. For custom designs, we freeze tooling and begin mold fabrication. You receive a production schedule within 48 hours of approval.
Can I combine multiple variants in one sample order?
Yes. Many brands order a mixed set — for example, 200 CR cans + 200 standard cans + 200 slim cans — to test their line across the full product range. We ship each variant in clearly labeled packaging so your QA team can track results per SKU.
