ISO 8317 Testing
How ISO 8317 Testing Works for Child-Resistant Snus Cans
ISO 8317 testing verifies that a reclosable container is difficult for children under 5 to open, yet accessible to adults. For snus and nicotine pouch brands, passing ISO 8317 is the difference between customs clearance and a rejected shipment.
What is BS EN ISO 8317?
BS EN ISO 8317 is the British and European adoption of the international ISO 8317 standard. It applies the same child-resistance test protocol but is formally referenced by UK and EU regulations, including the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD). MANKE provides BS EN ISO 8317 test reports for brands launching in the UK, EU, and EEA markets.
Sample Submission
We submit production-representative CR cans and closures to an ISO 17025 accredited lab. Samples include the exact material, decoration, and closure configuration you will receive in bulk production.
Child-Panel Test
Children aged 42–51 months attempt to open the package within a 5-minute window. To pass, at least 85% of children must fail to open the package, and at least 80% must fail after a demonstration.
Adult-Panel Test
Adults aged 50–70 must be able to open and properly reclose the package within a 5-minute period. At least 90% of adults must pass this test for the package to be considered senior-friendly.
Report & Batch Documentation
Every order ships with the original lab report: test date, lab accreditation scope, batch traceability, and conformance statement. We also provide notarized translations for EU, UK, and GCC customs on request.
